It’s official: Justin Fields is the No. 1 player in the country, according to the newly updated 247Sports composite rankings.

Fields (Harrison/Kennesaw, Ga.), a 5-star quarterback, has not chosen a school. He de-committed from Penn State in June.

Fields, who is 6-foot-3 and 221 pounds, has rapidly and unexpectedly ascended up the recruiting rankings. A year ago, he was a the No. 20 dual-threat quarterback in the country, per 247Sports.

247Sports moved Fields into its top spot earlier this summer. Rivals moved him up to No. 2 overall on Monday, launching him into the No. 1 spot in the composite rankings. Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence (Cartersville, Ga.) is No. 2 in the 247Sports composite and remains ahead of Fields per Rivals. Scout also has Fields listed as No. 1 overall.

Fields holds an offer from just about every top program in the country, but he recently has taken unofficial visits to Florida, Georgia, Auburn and Florida State. He has not set a timetable for his commitment.
