Kirby Smart and Georgia ended the early signing period with the No. 1 class in the country. Ohio State briefly overtook the Bulldogs in January, but with another haul of stars on National Signing Day, Georgia is assured of bringing in the top class for 2018.

With the additions of 5-star cornerback Tyson Campbell, 4-star linebackers Quay Walker and Otis Reese, and 4-star wide receiver Tommy Bush, Georgia officially locked up the nation’s No.1 overall recruiting class using the 247Sports composite rankings. The Bulldogs edged out Ohio State, which also added a 5-star prospect and a 4-star outside linebacker.

This win by Georgia ends Alabama’s streak of seven straight top-ranked classes. The last time Alabama didn’t have the No. 1 overall class was 2010, when it had the No. 4 class.

Georgia landed a staggering seven 5-star recruits in the Class of 2018; Clemson has signed five. The Bulldogs also landed one-third of the top 12 recruits in the country: Justin Fields, Jamaree Salyer, Zamir White and Tyson Campbell. Nine of the signees already are attending classes on campus as early enrollees.

This comes a year after the Bulldogs signed the No. 3 class in the country. The 2018 class marks the first time in program history that the Bulldogs have finished with the No. 1 overall class. As of 1 p.m. ET, the top 5 classes belonged to Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Miami and Penn State.

And for fans looking  ahead to 2019, Georgia already has the No. 1 class in the country with commitments from a trio of 5-star prospects. Georgia also added a commitment from 4-star 2019 tight end Ryland Goede on Wednesday. This comes on the heels of Georgia’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff.
